School System Overview
UAE private schools are regulated by emirate-level authorities who conduct annual inspections and publish ratings (Outstanding, Good, Acceptable, etc.). These ratings are publicly available and are the primary tool for evaluating school quality.
- KHDA (Knowledge and Human Development Authority): regulates all Dubai private schools; inspection reports published annually at khda.gov.ae
- ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge): equivalent Abu Dhabi authority
- Curricula available: British (GCSE/A-Level), American (AP/SAT), International Baccalaureate (IB), Indian CBSE, Australian, French (Lycée), and others
- Academic year: September–June for most schools; some follow US calendar (August–May)
- Class sizes: typically 20–26 students; private schools are better staffed than many UK state schools
- Transport: school buses are widely available; typical fee AED 5,000–8,000/year
- Registration: starts 12+ months in advance for popular schools; join waiting lists immediately upon arrival
