Visa-Free Tourism (90 Days)
Citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, European Union member states, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and many other countries may enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days. This is frequently used by remote workers testing the country before committing to the Remote Work Visa.
- No visa required — stamp on arrival at international airports and land borders
- 30-day extension available from Department of Home Affairs (R1,520 fee)
- Cannot legally work for a South African employer on this permit
- Remote working for a non-SA employer is a grey area — many do it; the 2025 Remote Work Visa formalises this
- Overstaying incurs fines and can affect future entry
