Senegal's Atlantic coastline is its greatest natural asset. Dakar alone has multiple surf breaks, beach bars, and swimming spots. Beyond the capital, the country offers everything from the pink waters of Lac Rose (Lake Retba) to the mangrove waterways of the Saloum Delta and the tropical forests of Casamance in the south.

Senegalese music — from the mbalax of Youssou N'Dour to the Afrobeats and hip-hop of the younger generation — is a constant soundtrack. The Corniche Ouest seafront promenade is Dakar's outdoor gym — joggers, calisthenics groups, and football (soccer) games along the ocean.
