Honduras doesn't distinguish between long-term visas and permanent residency in the traditional sense — as long as you continue to meet the conditions of your visa, you can remain indefinitely. The main pathways are the Rentista visa for those with passive income, the Pensionado visa for retirees, and employment-based options for entrepreneurs and workers.

The Rentista visa is Honduras's primary pathway for expats with passive income. You'll need to prove at least $2,500/month in income from foreign sources — pensions, rental income, investments, dividends, or similar. Additional income is required for each dependent. The visa grants an initial 2-year stay, renewable indefinitely.

Honduras's Pensionado program is designed for retirees receiving regular pension income. It requires a minimum of $1,500/month deposited into a local Honduran bank. This is one of the most accessible retiree visa programs in Central America, with benefits including duty-free import of household goods and a vehicle.

Applying for Honduran residency requires some preparation but is less bureaucratic than many Latin American countries. Most expats hire a local immigration attorney ($500–$1,500) to navigate the process in Spanish and handle government interactions.
