Climate, Altitude & Natural Diversity
Colombia's extraordinary geographical diversity means you can choose your climate — from eternal spring in Medellín to the cool highlands of Bogotá, warm Caribbean coast, or tropical Amazon basin.
- Medellín (1,495m altitude): 22°C year-round, low humidity, two short rainy seasons (April–May, October–November) — widely considered the world's most perfect urban climate
- Bogotá (2,600m altitude): 14°C average, cool and overcast frequently, can feel like a London autumn — but no extreme cold; altitude adjustment takes 2–5 days
- Cartagena (sea level, Caribbean): 28–32°C year-round, tropical, humid — beach weather daily but intense midday heat
- Coffee Region (Eje Cafetero, 1,300–1,800m): lush green mountains, warm days/cool nights, ideal for hiking and nature — stunning landscape
- Amazon (Leticia, Amazonas): tropical jungle, 28°C, high humidity, extraordinary biodiversity — accessible by plane only
- High-altitude llanos (Los Llanos): vast savanna plains — exceptional birding and wildlife, different from the popular tourist image of Colombia
- Colombia has two coasts (Caribbean and Pacific) — each with distinct character, beaches, and wildlife
